Why mindset work can be a trap
The mantra in most personal and spiritual development is "mindset." People are encouraged to watch your mindset. And that isn't wrong. Mindset is important.
However, my experience has shown me that a constant focus on beliefs, thinking and mindset can also cause a lot of problems and make people absolutely miserable. Why? Because people are constantly "trying" to get "there". This can result in:
- Constant censoring with your own thoughts and constantly trying to change them
- Fear of how you're really thinking and feeling (not how you wish you were thinking and feeling)
- An over-intellectualization of spiritual experience
- A determination to not be "negative" -- spiritual bypassing
- Not being able to accept how people are really feeling -- losing honesty with yourself
It's time to go beyond just mindset. Embodiment is a key component. Can you feel the difference between being in your head versus being in your body?
